When does patent law expire?

By David RiedelThe United States Patent and Trademark Office has extended the expiration date for several patent applications by a few months, but many other issues remain unresolved.

The Office announced on Wednesday that it was extending the expiration of an existing patent application for the “software program” to November 2019, and said it was also extending an existing application for “software development” for the same time period.

The patents are for software and hardware systems that are used by doctors, dentists, and other medical professionals, but are not intended to replace them.

A spokesman for the Office of Management and Budget said in a statement that the expiration “is not intended as a change in law or policy.

It is merely a normal reflection of how the patent office works.”

The extension also extends for one year any patent application that had expired earlier.
